Name: Nataliea Lowson (she/her)
Field: Astrophysics
Bio: I’m a PhD candidate at the University of Southern Queensland who’s characterising the atmospheres of exoplanets. I grew up in the nation’s capital, Canberra, where I received my BSc Honours degree from the Australian National University.
Likes: Travel, Birds, Learning
Fun fact: I have Spider-Man memorabilia in every room of my house
Contributions to Science: Although I’ve dabbled in both galactic and high energy research throughout my undergrad, my PhD focuses on exoplanet atmospheres characterisation - classifying the atmospheres of distant worlds outside of our Solar System. From looking at these atmospheres, we can uncover what it’s made of, weather patterns, its formation history and whether aliens might be living there. I’m also contributing scientific research towards the Twinkle Space Mission, a next generation space telescope that will be conducting the first dedicated exoplanet atmosphere characterisation survey.
